“I See You, I Get You” by Mugdha Kalra Debuts at Landmark Inclusion Events
Mumbai, India — At the forefront of the conversation around neurodiversity and caregiving, Mugdha Kalra unveiled her latest book, “I See You, I Get You: The Self-Care Guide for Special Needs Parents,” in November 2024. The release took place in Bangalore, during the India Inclusion Summit and the Indian Neurodiversity Summit, events attended by over 1,000 in-person participants and joined virtually by 2,000 more.
The book addresses the emotional, financial, and social challenges faced by parents of children with special needs, especially in a country like India, where systemic support is still evolving. Mugdha’s work sheds light on the unique stressors caregivers face and how cycles of grief and isolation can hinder their ability to provide holistic care. The book goes beyond the diagnosis to offer practical strategies, emotional grounding, and reflective exercises designed to help parents rediscover themselves, nurture their well-being, and build resilience and support circles. At its core, this book is about embracing hope, finding strength in vulnerability, and creating space for self-care in a life shaped by unique challenges. Through deeply relatable insights and actionable guidance, it reminds caregivers that prioritizing their own health and happiness is not selfish—it’s essential for their children to thrive.
A Call to Action for Caregiver Inclusion
Mugdha also emphasizes the importance of including caregivers in workplace policies and practices, highlighting how enabling caregivers can have a transformative impact on families and communities. She believes that supporting caregivers, alongside employing individuals with disabilities, can drive larger, systemic change. “When corporates hire caregivers, they empower entire families to lead more stable and fulfilling lives. This kind of support ripples out, fostering confidence and independence not just within families but across the larger disability community,” she explained.
A Movement for Change
Described as a guide, a companion, and a call to action, “I See You, I Get You” aims to inspire caregivers to prioritize their well-being and spark dialogue around inclusive policies in the workplace. Mugdha envisions a future where empowering caregivers today translates into a more inclusive, resilient society tomorrow.
